The particulate matter from automobile exhaust and industrial chimneys poses a huge threat to both humans and the environment. There are problems related to gas pollution in countries around the world. Particulate matter pollution is particularly dangerous to humans as it can damage the central nervous system and respiratory system. Researchers have been working hard to build better air filters to address air pollution and improve environmental quality. However, so far, the air filters under development have performed poorly in harsh environments, with more challenges posed by high temperatures, high humidity, or environments that require long-term filtration. In order to build a better air filter, the team of scientists designed a three-dimensional particle capture device. They used a simple sacrificial template method to create a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) sponge. Next, they applied a polydopamine (PDA) coating onto the sponge skeleton using an in-situ loading method. Then, a large number of ZIF-8 particles were grown on the PDA coating. ZIF-8 is a metal organic framework, which is a type of porous material with diversity in structure and chemical tunability. Metal organic frameworks have shown great potential for applications in gas adsorption and air filtration. The abundant pores in the composite sponge provide good airflow, and ZIF-8 particles enhance the filtration performance of the sponge. The particulate matter from automobile exhaust and industrial chimneys requires filters to have high temperature and high humidity resistance, as well as good mechanical performance. The team tested their sponge under high temperature (250 degrees Celsius/482 degrees Fahrenheit) and high humidity (90% relative humidity) conditions simulating an industrial high-temperature environment. The test results under high temperature and high humidity conditions indicate that the composite sponge has great potential for application in the industrial field. Further testing of the composite sponge replicated the conditions used for filtering automobile exhaust. Due to its easy shaping and structural stability, sponge can be easily used in different scenarios as needed. So researchers prepared composite sponges to adapt to exhaust pipe openings. In the automobile exhaust test simulating the normal operation of a car, the particle removal efficiency of the composite sponge reached over 99%. Even after 65 hours of filtration, the composite sponge still maintains excellent performance. Professor Lai Yuekun from Fuzhou University said, "This study provides a new idea for designing 3D high-efficiency air filters that can adapt to harsh environments. Due to the good structural stability and easy shaping of composite sponge, it is suitable for various applications from car exhaust pipes to industrial chimneys to kitchen fans In the next step, our research team will explore gas filters that can adapt to higher temperatures and methods for treating certain components of air pollutants, rather than just filtering particulate matter. Through this approach, researchers may expand the application scenarios of gas filters while increasing their potential for practical applications. The filters on FFUs are generally selected for high efficiency, with customers mostly choosing H13-U16 for efficiency. Initial effect (capture rate of 90%): 80-180 Pa (G3, G4). It is recommended to increase the final resistance to three times the initial resistance.

Bag type: 50-200, recommended final resistance of 250 Pa;

Box type: 40-150 Pa, recommended final resistance of 300 Pa;

Plate type 100-175 Pa, recommended final resistance of 375 Pa.

Efficient (mpps) (H13, H14, U15, U16): 60-140 Pa.

The initial resistance of a filter is closely related to the wind speed and the thickness of the filter material. Generally speaking, when the wind speed is high, the resistance is high, and when the filter material is thick, the resistance is low (except for bag filters).

As an effective filtering medium, filter paper has been widely used in various fields. According to the different types of fibers that make up the filter paper, the performance and purpose of the filter paper also vary. There are ordinary filter paper used for general occasions, glass fiber filter paper used for high temperatures, and polypropylene filter paper used for ultra clean applications. According to whether the filter paper is impregnated with glue, it can be divided into two categories, namely impregnated filter paper and non impregnated filter paper. Immersion filter paper is divided into cured filter paper and non cured filter paper. The following mainly introduces impregnated filter paper used in industry.

This provides an effective means of removing as many pollutant particles as possible from liquids and gases, with minimal resistance limitations. It has therefore been widely applied. In other words, the filter must prevent the filtered system from being damaged by harmful particles while allowing sufficient fluid to pass through the filter to avoid creating voids in the pump, cylinder, and combustion chamber. This imposes strict requirements on the filter material.

According to the different application scenarios of each filter paper, its basic weight, thickness, and apparent density also vary. Generally speaking, filter paper used for diesel has higher accuracy and lower apparent density. The application of fiberglass reduces the apparent density of filter paper. Therefore, while maintaining the same filtration accuracy as all wood fiber filter paper, its pollutant holding capacity has been greatly improved.
